AST Enrich – Introduction to Python Class Registration

For students 5th grade and above, no previous coding experience needed!
 
Class Schedules:
When: Tuesdays 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM 
Where:  River Hill High School, 12101 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 (Tentative)
Start Date: 3/21/2023 (Total is 10 weeks)

Class Description:
In this Introduction to Python class, students will learn Python from the basics of coding until being able to solve beginner-intermediate coding problems on their own. They will learn about the purpose and applications of coding, Python syntax, variables and operations, if statements, loops, and problem solving strategies. Additionally, they will be provided with a complimentary website to practice at home with and track their growth. Students will also receive advice moving forwards in their coding journey, including the next steps to take after taking the class.
 
Instructor - Benjamin Li:
Benjamin is a 11th grader at River Hill High School. He has been programming for 4 years, has been programming in Python for 3 years, and has taught programming for 2 years. He is currently the vice president in his school’s programming and artificial intelligence clubs and a computer science intern at JHU Applied Physics Lab, where he uses his Python skills to write machine learning scripts. He has made multiple Python projects, including an object-detection pipeline for social media, a card counter for blackjack, and a retro puzzle game. He scored 5 on both of the CSP and CSA AP exams and obtained USACO Silver.
