Parent Seminar “Unlocking Leadership Potential – from an Asian-American perspective”
The topic of leadership has special relevance for Asian-Americans, who form the most educated demographic yet are underrepresented in leadership positions and face higher academic standards in college admissions. Guest speaker Adrienne Lo is a Yale alum & admissions interviewer, MBA, and human capital strategist at AstraZeneca. Adrienne is also the founder/instructor of IvyLead (http://www.ivylead.org/), a highly-rated leadership development program for teens based on the practices of top companies and business schools. IvyLead will be offered in Howard County in fall 2016. Parents and students (ages 11+) are encouraged to attend this interactive seminar, which will address the following: a) Asian-Americans and leadership – why does it matter and what are the cultural barriers? How can we overcome these barriers? b) What are essential leadership skills that drive success? c) How do elite colleges assess leadership potential, and how can students demonstrate leadership in the application process? d) How can parents support the development of leadership skills and confidence in their children?
