2021 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Contest

The month of May is designated to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. To honor the AAPI Heritage month during this challenging time, we are excited to announce a digital celebration. We are inviting all community members of all ages from any social and cultural background to participate a digital contest in the form of your choices, Visual Art or Film.

2. Theme

    Stop AAPI Hate - Solidarity, Community, and Celebration

3. Age Divisions

  • Division 1 - Age 5 to 10

  • Division 2 – Age 11 to 15

  • Division 3 – Age 16 and above

   You can participant as an individual or a group. For group entries, the age division is decided by the age of the eldest group member.

4. Categories

     Please review all submission requirements carefully. Contestants may submit one entry per category, meaning that you may enter up to 2 pieces, one in each category. If you submit more than one entry in a category, additional entries will not be counted or judged.

 

  • Virtual Art

         Visual Art submissions may include:

  • Drawing & illustration

  • Painting

  • Graphic design

  • Digital art, coding art & GIFs

  • Mixed media & collage

  • Printmaking

  • Photography

 

         Visual Art Submission Requirements:

  • Accepted file types: JPG, PNG, GIF, or PDF.

  • Make sure your files are high resolution, not crooked, and can easily be viewed.

  • Works Cited (if applicable): Include a bibliography (any style) crediting sources and citing any ideas, facts, quotes, or existing media used in your artwork that are not your own.

 

  • Film

        Film submissions may include (but are not limited to):

        Narrative films, live action films, hand-drawn or computer-generated animation, documentaries, or experimental film.

 

        Film Submission Requirements:

  • Films must be 1-3 minutes in length.

  • Upload your film to YouTube and provide the public URL on the submission form. Ensure that your video is not private.

  • Include a title and credits in the film itself for any information, images, audio, or video clips that are not your own. We encourage you to use original, copyright-free, or public domain images, footage, and music.

  • Your submission must be in English or have English subtitles if narration is in a language other than English.

  • If the person(s) in the video is under 18 years of age at the time of entry, the contestant(s) must have permission from parent(s) / guardian(s), and an adult must review and submit the entry

  • Works Cited (if applicable): Include a bibliography (any style) crediting sources and citing any ideas, facts, quotes, or existing media used in your work that are not your own.

 

5. Submission

     All submissions must be received by 11:59PM Eastern Time (ET) on June 6, 2021 .

 

6. Judging Criteria

     The contest results will be announced in the middle of June 2021.

 

     Judges consider:

  • How well submissions address the theme of the Contest

  • Demonstration of artistic voice, originality, and imagination

  • Craftsmanship, including quality, technique, and skill in chosen medium; attention to detail; and accuracy in communicating issues

  • If a submission meets category requirements (such as length, file type, etc.).

7. Prizes

     The top five students in each category of each age division will receive the following prizes:

  • 1st place: $100

  • 2nd place: $60

  • 3rd place: $30

  • 2 Honorable mentions: $15 each

 

8. Ownership and License

  • Ownership in any submission shall remain the property of the contestant, but entry into this contest constitutes contestant’s irrevocable permission and consent that the contest organizers may display, copy, reproduce, enhance, print, sublicense, publish, distribute, and create derivative works for their purposes.

  • Submission of entry into this contest constitutes acceptance of all rules and conditions
